02-13	16 Libertarian party, my talk 14 or 15, Linda Torno
	Fred Stitt

1. libsimp.

The technological component of freedom.

I share the libertarian goal of increasing the choices
open to each individual to run his life as he chooses and to
accomplish ambititious goals. The emphasis in my thoughts,
however, is in how science and technology can help.

2. Respectability insurance - a social invention.
technology as opportunity rather than assessment of effects
opportunities to use technology to enhance individual freedom
of initiative

Some people believe, in spite of the evidence, that technological
improvement necessarily increases scale. Some increase the most
economical scale and some reduce it. Examples of the latter.

For the individual, services that are available for purchase
without negotiation are as good, and often better, than
owning the equipment. Now one can purchase increased electric
service - mainly without notice. What if one had to negotiate
with one's neighbors about increasing the capacity of the block
solar power unit?

We don't take full advantage of the opportunities that exist.
